Sunday

It’s 10:00 and we are on the road. Went to -1 last night. It is zero and may start snowing at noon. Got a later start as unbeknownst to us there was a train track beside the campground with trains running every 3 hours sounding their horn! The highways are dry. Another cloudy, dreary day.

Crossed the Manitoba border and lost our last hour at 1:30. Still dreary and lightly raining. Stopped in Brandon at 3:30. So cold and miserable out. Lots of snow on the sides of the road after Brandon. Thankfully the snow slowly went away on our drive. Pulled into Headingly at 5:30 almost home ... long day.

An end to another awesome trip. Guess we will spend this week winterizing the RV and waiting to head down to Arizona after Christmas.

Saturday

We watched the movie Walk the Line last night. What a great movie and gives you some perspective on Johnny Cash’s life and how his father affected him. I want to read his book now.

It’s an absolutely miserable day today. Cold, rainy and misty outside. It’s about 2 degrees and feels like -5 ... crazy. Wish we were closer to home as I don’t think we are going to avoid the snow.

We did pass signs for Historic Reesor Ranch. I looked it up and would like to check it out on another trip (https://www.reesorranch.com/photos/).

Just west of Swift Current there was a police roadblock and they were pulling over most vehicles but thankfully waved us through. Must be looking for someone. It’s 2:45 and we will be in Moose Jaw in about 1/2 hour. The weather now says it feels like -7 and we have a head wind of 40 gusting to 60! Decided to drive further to make the drive home tomorrow easier. Looks like we are not going to avoid the snow anyway ... it’s snowing in Brandon right now. After Regina we could see some snow on roof tops, along the side of the highway and sprinkles in the fields ... nooooooo!

The Indian Head campground has really good reviews and they have pull through sites. I called and they have lots of sites so off we go. Oh my ... it’s winter camping here. Can’t believe the amount of snow and the number of people camping! Really ... snow in September?? In spite of the snow, it’s a beautiful campground for a future trip. Afraid to see what we are going to wake up to😳

Friday Adventures

It’s a nice drive to Fernie, just too bad it’s cloudy and rainy.  Drove through Jaffray ... very nice place. Saw a couple of dream log homes. There was a beautiful golf course and the grass was so green. There is also an RV resort. The drive from jaffray to Fernie is stunning even with the rain. Went through a tunnel. Took pictures through the window. We are thankful it’s not colder and icy! Arrived in Fernie just before noon. Too bad it’s cloudy and raining as it would be nice to see the mountains. We drove around a bit and love Fernie. We want to come back in the fall with the RV and then in the winter with our car to ski. It’s beautiful here ... the fall colours stunning. Wasn’t able to take any pictures. If it wasn’t raining we would have walked the downtown strip.

Crossed into Alberta at 1:00. The sun is trying to come out. The scenery is so beautiful ... wish we could stop to take pictures. Coleman Alberta is a nice place with gorgeous views. They have the Crowsnest RV park nestled on the side of a hill, a golf course and ski hill. Just up a bit further we saw signs for the Frank Slide Interpretive centre and decided to go check it out. It was an unbelievable slide from the top of turtle mountain in 1903 and the rocks still stand here today (https://frankslide.ca/). Shortly after leaving Frank we were out of the mountains ... just like that! Now we are into the rolling farmlands and wind turbines. Can sure make up driving time now!

Arrived in Lethbridge at 4:30. Only need a t-shirt outside as it’s 20 degrees. Arrived in Medicine Hat around 6:30. Found a beautiful campground with drive through RV sites. Thank goodness as we didn’t want to take the car off the dolly. Our poor RV and car are filthy from the rain. We are staying at Gas City campground. It is run by the city and they have free movies and you can rent bikes. They told us that there are lots of bike trails ... wish we were staying longer. Medicine Hat is known for their natural gas, hence the name Gas City Campground.

Leaving in the morning for Moose Jaw. We may stay there to see the tunnels and then head home on Sunday. We will see how much snow we run into!!

Friday Morning

It’s 9:00 and it is 6 degrees out. We leave the fan on at night so no furnace and it’s mighty cold in here! Last night we had a delicious supper at the casino ... a casual buffet with ribs, baked potato, vegetables and salad. Then we put $20 into the machines ... didn’t last long. Took a walk to the golf course ... very nice. The walk up rate is $65 and $15 for the cart. They have a vacation package for $165 for one night stay in the resort and one round of golf based on double occupancy. There is a caution sign that there are bears in the area and to carry bear spray.

Was nice to watch the jets play,  We have only gotten TV reception a few times on the trip.

Took a few pictures of the campground and this little cabin they have for rent. They weren’t able to give us a tour as someone was renting it but it has two beds, a bathroom and a kitchen. So cute ... like one of those tiny houses.

It’s rsining right now and looks like rain most of our way. We are getting home just in time as it’s supposed to be 1 degree in Moose Jaw. Heading that way but might not make it that far.
